Easing PMS During Perimenopause


"Navigating PMS during perimenopause can be challenging, but I've got you covered! Here are some practical tips to help you manage your symptoms and feel your very best."


  1. Stay Active: Regular exercise can help reduce PMS symptoms by boosting endorphins and improving mood. Try and aim for 15 minutes 5 days per week with a daily walk thrown into the mix.


  2. Eat a Balanced Diet: Focus on whole foods rich in fibre, lean protein, and healthy fats. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to help regulate hormones and reduce bloating.


  3. Hydrate: Drinking plenty of water can help reduce bloating and flush out toxins. Try and aim for 2ltrs per day.


  4. Reduce Caffeine and Alcohol: Both caffeine and alcohol can exacerbate PMS symptoms. Try to cut back, especially in the days leading up to your period, or when your period would have been if they have become irregular.


  5. Get Enough Sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours of good quality sleep per night. Good sleep helps regulate hormones and reduces stress.


  6. Manage Stress: Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation, mindfulness or deep breathing exercises. Reducing stress can help balance your hormones and alleviate PMS symptoms.


  7. Consider Supplements: Some women find relief with supplements like magnesium, vitamin B6, and omega-3 fatty acids. Always consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplements.


  8. Track Your Symptoms: Keep a diary of your PMS symptoms to identify patterns and triggers. This can help you manage and prepare for them more effectively.
